What is Odor Spot Treatment in Air Care?
You’ve heard of air fresheners, but have you heard of spot treatment? All handheld air fresheners fall into the category of spot treatment, but spot treatment isn’t exclusive to air fresheners. So, what is this method of odor elimination, and how could it work in your facility?
At State Chemical, we manufacture and distribute chemical solutions to various problems, including odor concerns. Finding the right scenting solution is sometimes easier said than done, especially considering how stubborn odors can be. The last thing you want to deal with is a persistent stench in your facility.
To help you find the right scenting solution for you, we will explain what spot treatment is, its different options, its many applications, and alternative solutions. After reading, you’ll know whether spot treatment is the solution for you.
What is Spot Treatment?
Spot treatment refers to any handheld method of odor control to treat a specific area (e.g., a piece of furniture or a two-stall bathroom). This can look like your typical air freshener, an odor eliminator, or something else altogether.
As a concept, spot treatment is variable, and many different products can fall under the category of “spot treatment.” The term refers more so to the method, which entails treating a small area (usually the root of the odor) to freshen the whole space.
Different Methods of Spot Treatment
Different types of spot treatment include aerosols, sprays, solids, gels, and more. Anything to control odors in a small area—even a candle—is spot treatment.
For example, if you have a couch in your lobby, chances are that it will eventually start smelling like body odor—after all, different people sit in it throughout the day every day. To resolve this problem, you would want to use a fabric refresher.
In contrast, if you deal with frequent cannabis odors in a particular entryway, you would want to use a handheld cannabis odor eliminator to handle the problem as it arises.
Meanwhile, if you have a putrid-smelling dumpster behind your building, a deodorizing spray or a granular odor eliminator could control the odors.
Spot treatment takes many different forms. If you have an odor problem specific to a certain area, you’ll be able to find a method of spot treatment specifically intended to solve that problem.
When Should I Use Spot Treatment?
While it can be used virtually anywhere, spot treatment performs best in small spaces, in spaces with infrequent odors, and on specific objects, such as carpeting or a piece of furniture.
Just think about it. If you sprayed a handheld air freshener in a 750,000-square foot convention center, it might make the spot you’re standing in smell nice, but it won’t impact the vast majority of the facility. Even if you had twenty air fresheners spread throughout the building, it probably wouldn’t have much of an impact.
Similarly, let’s say you have severe, persistent odors in your trash room. You can spray an odor eliminator there, but with very serious and consistent odors, a handheld spray might not be enough to make a difference.
In situations like these, spot treatment just wouldn’t make sense, and you’ll need to look into large-space and/or severe-odor solutions.
However, let’s say you have chairs that smell foul. Let’s say you have a two-stall bathroom that semi-frequently reeks. Let’s say that you have a dumpster odor problem. Let’s say that you want to occasionally freshen your break room. These are all cases where spot treatment is a feasible option.
Alternative Odor Control Options
If spot treatment doesn’t sound like the right solution for your odors, you also have other options. Namely, you can explore ambient scenting.
Ambient scenting entails using an automated scent diffuser to evenly fragrance a space. Different ambient scenting systems can fragrance spaces as small as an elevator or as large as an entire building.
This is a great solution for larger spaces, like the previously mentioned convention center, or for spaces with consistently foul odors, like the previously mentioned trash rooms. Scent diffusers run as often as 24/7, ensuring that your facility smells fresh and odor-free in situations where handheld options would be too challenging to keep up with.
