State Fragrance Cube Family Overview: When to Use What

Imagine that you just got hired at a middle school as a PE teacher. On your first day, you’re excited to start prepping for the year and connecting with the kids. But when you walk into the gymnasium, all you can think about is the lingering smell of sweat, mildew, and 12-year-olds’ BO. Suddenly, this glittering idea you built up in your head grows dull, and you wonder if this is really the environment you have to work in every day.

At State Chemical, we manufacture, distribute, and service fragrance systems to solve these exact problems. We know smelly facilities are hard to attract customers to, much less work in, and we know it’s hard to figure out what kind of fragrance system you need for this.

This is why it’s our goal to educate you honestly about our fragrance systems. That way, you can choose the best option for your facility.

In this article, we will explain the four systems in our State Fragrance Cube family, where they work best, where they’re less effective, and how to choose one based on your individual needs. After reading, you’ll know which fragrance system—if any—will work best for your facility.

What is a Fragrance System?

A fragrance system, also known as a scent diffuser, is a machine that regularly disperses a fragrance into a space. Fragrance systems can usually be programmed to do this on a customized schedule.

State’s Fragrance Cube family uses cold air diffusion and an odor-eliminating ingredient called SE-500 to eliminate odors while fragrancing a space. Cold air diffusion technology allows each system to provide a consistent experience throughout the 30- or 60-day period, and State Chemical includes service to replace your fragrances as needed.

Each system is designed for spaces of a different size and has its own coinciding benefits and drawbacks.

State Fragrance Cube 2-6

The Fragrance Cube 2-6 is a wall-mounted system that can fragrance rooms from 2,000 to 6,000 ft³. This means small-to-medium-sized rooms, like restrooms or office kitchens.

The Fragrance Cube 2-6, like the other systems listed, is purchased as part of a program agreement that provides equipment, refills, and a complete service program. The unit can be programmed to dispense more or less frequently, with refill bottles lasting either 30 or 60 days based on the needs of a particular treatment area.

A 30-day program is the standard agreement, meaning that your Fragrance Cube 2-6 will run 24 hours a day. Meanwhile, a 60-day program is a light program, where your Fragrance Cube 2-6 will only run 12 hours a day, so it’s only active while people are in the building or during your high traffic hours.

However, it’s also possible to further customize the hours of your Fragrance Cube 2-6 so that it only runs on certain days or for more specific hours. For example, if you’re the PE teacher from the intro, maybe you only want the system to run from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday—no one is in the building on weekends anyway.

State Fragrance Cube 6-15

Like the Fragrance Cube 2-6, the Fragrance Cube 6-15 is a wall-mounted fragrance system—only it can treat rooms from 6,000–15,000 ft³. This will mean your medium-to-large-sized rooms, like classrooms or hair salons.

Similar to the Fragrance Cube 2-6, the Fragrance Cube 6-15 has customizable programming so that it runs when you want it to. The less it runs, the longer it lasts. The more it runs, the more consistent the fragrance.

If you want to cover a slightly larger space than the Fragrance Cube 2-6 can handle, the Fragrance Cube 6-15 is for you. If you’d rather handle a larger system or multiple Fragrance Cube 2-6s, the Fragrance Cube 6-15 is not your fragrance system.

State Fragrance Cube

The standard State Fragrance Cube treats even larger spaces with cubic footage from 10,000–150,000. This serves spaces ranging from hotel lobbies to ballrooms.

Unlike the Fragrance Cube 2-6 and the Fragrance Cube 6-15, the standard Fragrance Cube is typically placed on the floor. In other words, it does not have a wall-mounted option, so if you prefer a wall-mounted system, you would either have to invest in multiple wall-mounted systems or provide a shelf for it. We find that many buildings strategically place the Fragrance Cube behind furniture or decorative plants to keep it safe and out of the way of foot traffic.

While using multiple Fragrance Cube 2-6s is sometimes more cost-effective, there are also cases where the standard Fragrance Cube will be a more efficient and comprehensive scent solution. For example, let’s say you want to fragrance a 75,000 ft³ hospital lobby. It would take 12 or 13 Fragrance Cube 2-6s to fragrance this lobby while it would take just one standard Fragrance Cube. Obviously, it’s much more efficient to use the single standard Fragrance Cube.

If you have a large space to fragrance, the Fragrance Cube is a great option. If you’d prefer a wall-mounted system, consider using multiple smaller systems or if you could install a shelf for your Fragrance Cube.

State Fragrance Central

The State Fragrance Central is the largest system sold by State Industrial Products, with the potential to fragrance spaces 100,000–750,000 ft³. These will be very large spaces—often entire facilities. For example, one could fragrance an entire grocery store, convention center, or sports arena.

Differentiating itself from our other three systems, the Fragrance Central has two options for dispensing. The first option is to use tubing to connect it to your heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system or your air handling unit (AHU). This way, it can disperse scents throughout the entire building via the ventilation system.

Your second option is to have it as a floor unit like the Fragrance Cube, where it will release concentrated fragrance out of its top. This second application option is often used in trash rooms.

If you want to connect the system to your HVAC system or AHU, it might be a challenge depending on the setup of your air handlers. In many buildings, there are one or two air handlers, and it’s easy to set up the Fragrance Central in these situations. But in other buildings, there will be several smaller air handlers throughout the building, and connecting the Fragrance Central to each of them might be difficult or even impossible.

In these cases, it’s better to use multiple smaller units throughout high-traffic areas of the building. But when you have a large space in need of air treatment, the Fragrance Central is an easy, effective tool for the job.
