Fragrance Factory® vs. Wick Scent Diffuser

You’re looking for a scent diffuser perfect for your small space, and you’ve started researching Fragrance Factory® as well as wick-based systems. But what is Fragrance Factory? What are wicks? How do they each work? Which will be better for you?

At State Chemical, we manufacture and distribute chemical solutions for a variety of purposes, including scenting systems like Fragrance Factory. It can be hard to determine what will function best in your space without seeing it in your space firsthand, so it’s our goal to provide you with information about each type of system so that you can make the best purchase for your facility.

In this article, we will explain what Fragrance Factory is, what wick-based scent diffusers are, and when each is best used. After reading, you’ll know which system is best suited to you.

What is Fragrance Factory?

Fragrance Factory is a wall-mounted scent diffuser that uses a fan to propel the fragrance of scented gel packs (known as Fragrance Paks™). It can fragrance a space up to 2,000 cubic feet, which is about the size of a two-stall bathroom.

Because Fragrance Paks naturally start to evaporate after opening, Fragrance Factory constantly produces a scent, but the fan can be programmed to run only at your chosen intervals. The fan pushes the scent out into your space, so when it’s turned off, the scent won’t be very potent. This can be useful when you want to save battery and some fragrance, such as at night when people aren’t in the building.

It is important to note that Fragrance Paks continue to evaporate regardless of whether the fan is on. Additionally, due to this evaporation pattern, Fragrance Factory’s scent declines in potency throughout the month. For a more consistent small-space scenting solution, explore the State Fragrance Cube 2-6™, not Fragrance Factory or wick-based systems.

Where to Use Fragrance Factory

Fragrance Factory is best used in small, square-shaped or rectangular spaces. Because of the shape of the system, scent will be most evenly distributed through square-shaped areas.

Say that you’re looking for a scenting solution for your elevator. This is the perfect size space for Fragrance Factory, and it would be a shape that the Fragrance Factory could evenly fragrance.

Additionally, Fragrance Factory is good for spaces that don’t have severe odors. Since the fragrance potency declines throughout the month, it won’t necessarily be able to fight odors the same on day 1 as it does on day 30. When you have minor odors, this probably won’t affect you much. However, if your odors are severe, this may be an inefficient solution.

Fragrance Factory is also a good fit for facilities that may not have the time to manage their fragrance system. Sold on program agreements, Fragrance Factory systems include monthly service and repairs.

What are Wicks?

Meanwhile, when we say “wicks,” we’re talking about a liquid reservoir with a wick in the middle that absorbs and pulls out fragrance to propel into a space. Usually, this extracted fragrance will also be pushed out via a fan-based system.

Wicks often come in plug-ins or as wall-mounted systems. Like Fragrance Factory, they’re out of the way and easy to use—but depending on the type of fan they use, their performance may be more consistent throughout the month since they’re constantly pulling in new fragrance.

Different systems have different coverage capabilities, but wick-based systems usually have a similar range of coverage to Fragrance Factory at up to 2,000 cubic feet.

Where to Use Wick-Based Scent Diffusers

Like Fragrance Factory, wick-based scent diffusers are well fit for small spaces, but their ideal space shape varies depending on which system you select.

For square-shaped rooms, a cube-shaped or square-shaped system is best. For long hallways, narrow rectangular systems might be best. The shape of the system determines how the fragrance is distributed, and the efficiency varies based on the area you’re hoping to treat.

Choose a wicking system based on how the specific system will perform in your space. When you need more system variety than Fragrance Factory can offer, wick-based scent diffusers are for you. If you need more scenting consistency or strength, explore cold air diffusion systems like the Fragrance Cube 2-6.

Your Perfect Fragrance System Depends on Your Individual Space

Overall, the differences between how Fragrance Factory and wick-based systems work are minimal. Your decision will come down to your space’s needs and which type of system will work better for these needs.

Research available systems to determine if they’ll work better for your room’s shape and size. If your room is square or rectangular and under 2,000 cubic feet, Fragrance Factory is a good choice. If your room is more narrow and long or otherwise oddly shaped, look into wick-based systems.

Additionally, consider the merits of Fragrance Factory including service and whether you’d like a hands-off experience. Also, think about whether you’d like to manage your own scent diffuser with wicks.

Every facility is unique, so choose the option that suits your unique needs.
