Berwyn South School District 100’s Journey with State Chemical
It’s tough to find solutions to your facility’s maintenance problems, whether these problems are slow drains, odors, carpet stains, or something else entirely. For Berwyn South School District 100, this was no different.
Frequent Drain Problems for School Janitorial Services
Fifteen years ago, their facilities were looking at issues behind the scenes. Kitchen drains would constantly back up, and their urinals would often cake up with uric salt buildup. Rodding out these drains was a frequent chore for the maintenance team at these facilities. Additionally, in the winter, the school’s floor drains would often suffer from dry drain due to accelerated evaporation from the heater constantly running.
George Lambesis, the director of buildings and grounds, recalled, “It’s one of the worst things [when] you get a call in the middle of the night, [saying,] ‘Hey, we got this bathroom flooding out,’ or you get a call first thing in the morning from the food service staff [saying] that ‘Hey, our sink isn’t going down, there’s water all over the floor.’”
But Berwyn South School District 100 doesn’t have these issues anymore.
How Berwyn South School District 100 Found Their Solution
Eleven years ago, they were contacted by a State Chemical to set up a meeting and survey of their facilities. During this survey, the representative was able to see some of these drain issues firsthand and recommend solutions, including A-Salt for their urinals, Shut Your Trap for their floor drains, and Grease-B-Gone for their grease traps.
The district decided to give it a shot and started a drain program with State Chemical. Now, they see a significant difference in the state of their facilities.
Their urinals are no longer suffering from uric salt buildup, they’re no longer experiencing odors from dry floor drains, their sinks are no longer backing up, and their grease trap is cleaner. Plus, with consistent service from their representative, they don’t have to add any extra work to their plate.
Instead, the representative comes at regular intervals to swap out buckets of product, change the batteries in their 24/7 Drain Dosing Stations, and ensure that everything is working properly.
Additionally, during school breaks, their representative continues to service their facilities, regularly pouring A-Salt, Shut Your Trap, and Grease-B-Gone down the schools’ drains to keep water flowing smoothly. By continuing treatment even when the drains aren’t in use, they prevent problems when school is back in session.
The Impact on School Janitorial Services
Above all else, Lambesis emphasized that the products they’ve received are not ones that you can purchase from a standard janitorial supplier.
Lambesis said, “[State Chemical has] a lot of things that we can’t get from other companies... We’ve had issues like in the winter, where we get a pothole that we need to patch real quick or cement that chipped or something due to the weather.” In these situations, they’ve been able to call their representative and get recommendations of products to solve their issues.
From some of these other product recommendations, Berwyn South School District 100 has been able to start using other helpful products, like Stainless Steel Cleaner and Gum Remover. By consistently being able to try new products, they’ve found solutions to a variety of issues all in one place.
“[State Chemical is] a great company,” Lambesis elaborated. “Good representatives, quality products. They stand behind what they tell you they’re going to do. So, you know, it’s a really good company to work with.”
